While I have a general practice in individual and couples psychotherapy, I sub-specialize in the treatment of anxiety, panic, trauma, and depression. I also have specialized training in the treatment of adolescents/college students and older adults. My medical-psychological background includes experience with weight control, sports injury, and psychological factors in physical illness.

My therapy is collaborative, interactive, and supportive. With emphasis on the growth and process of the client-therapist relationship, I try to create a safe, respectful and healing interpersonal environment. I seek not only reduction in a client's current symptoms, but also broader and potentially more enduring changes in life roles and behaviors. I devote particular attention to the ways in which people live, unintentionally ignore and compromise their true needs, the manner in which attempted solutions to problems can become problems themselves, and the role of choice and responsibility in effecting change. I strive for a balance between emphasis on past events and a clear focus on the here and now. My primary therapeutic influences are cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, and humanistic/existential. In my work with couples I incorporate the use of family systems theory, communication training, and intimacy building.

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern California. I was Director of the Yale Psychological Services Clinic and Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Yale University from 1999-2002. I was also on staff at Beyond Care, an integrative medical clinic devoted to weight and endocrine issues.
